‘The more you target Modi, the stronger he will emerge’

The BJP national president Rajnath Singh called the Cabinet decision to set up a judicial inquiry to probe the alleged snooping by the Gujarat government on a young woman as an effort to divert public attention from good governance by Narendra Modi.

“I can say with full confidence that the more you target Modi, the stronger and more confident he will emerge,” Mr. Singh remarked on Friday, while addressing a meeting of the party’s Karnataka State executive here.

Pointing out that the Gujarat government had already constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the charges, with a deadline of three months to submit its report, Mr. Singh said it was not proper on the part of the Centre to form another committee. “The Centre should have waited for the State-appointed committee to file its report. If the report was not satisfactory, then the Centre could have constituted another committee. The [Centre’s] decision has raised a question mark on the federal structure of the country itself,” he said.

Mr. Singh asked the party and its supporters to be cautious of efforts intended to divert public attention from the good governance and development works of the BJP.
