Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday disclosed that his government will give priority to the appointment of Lokayukta and State Information Commissioners (SICs), all of which are presently vacant.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the new office premises for the State Information Commission in the city on Monday, the Chief Minister said that he was in favour of ushering in transparency in the administration and would like the State Information Commission to work efficiently, effectively and give speedy orders in appeals and complaints.

He said that he was also aware that the Chief Information Commissioner’s post would fall vacant by end of this month. But he would ensure that SICs posts are immediately filled, for which process is already on. As for the CIC post, it can remain vacant for some time, he said.

Goa Lokayukta post has been vacant for more than a year while SIC appointment has been delayed following withdrawal of its own nominations by the government due to technicalities on two past occasions.
