A 14-year-old girl student, who was allegedly raped, committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in West Bengal’s Burdwan district.

The girl was allegedly raped by a youth on September 30 at Ahalidipur and committed suicide on Saturday. She left a note stating that she and her family members were being pressurised by the accused to withdraw the FIR, which was subsequently lodged.

Police later recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.

Following the alleged rape, which was committed at her house when the other members were not present, the police arrested the youth but he was subsequently released on bail.

Since then the youth and his family members started harassing the girl and pressurising her family members to withdraw the FIR, police said.

Based on the note, the police arrested the mother of the youth and three other family members. They were produced at the court on Sundayday where the acting CJM Anusha Lama remanded the mother and another family member to two days of police custody while the two others were sent to judicial custody till December 11.
