A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted under the seat of a bicycle by suspected NDFB militants, exploded in Bongaigaon on Wednesday, police said.

However, no one was injured in the blast.

The blast damaged a wall of a shop. The bicycle with the IED wrapped with a white plastic paper was placed next to a shop in the heart of Bongaigaon town.

The shopkeeper told the police that he had not seen the bicycle while he had opened the shop in the morning, but it could have been placed there while he was inside the shop.

Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police Abhijit Bora said NDFB was suspected to have planted the IED, but he did not specify which faction of the militant organisation was involved in the incident.
