: The Odisha Rajya Bidyut Upavokta Mahasangha (ORBUM) has urged Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to reduce electricity tariff for consumers.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, ORBUM President Panchanan Kanungo said, “Companies involved in power distribution failed to bring down Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses to an all India average of 17 per cent despite collecting thousands crore rupees from consumers in Odisha. Now the ATC loss in Odisha stands at 38 per cent. ”
“Per unit charge for 1 to 50 units in Odisha, which is an electricity producing State, will be Rs. 2.50. TATA Power in Mumbai is providing electricity at Rs. 2.62 paise per unit in the slab of 1 to 100 units,” Mr. Kanungo pointed out.
Similarly, Rabi Behera, convenor of ORBUM, said that quality of power being supplied to consumers in Odisha is very poor and long hours of undeclared power-cut are a daily affair.
The ORBUM has welcomed the April 21 judgment of Appellate Tribunal for Electricity which upheld OERC’s order regarding the cancellation of license of Reliance group companies — WESCO, NESCO and SOUTHCO which were engaged in power distribution.
