Post-election violence has made Badakhairakhama village under Kodala police station in Kavisuryanagar assembly segment in Ganjam district tense. On Saturday a group of miscreants hurled crude bombs at some houses in the village. Some houses were damaged. One person was injured and has been admitted to MKCG medical college and hospital. Police has reached the village to check escalation of violence.

On Friday, Duryodhan Gouda, who is the husband of panchayat samiti member Renubala Gouda had faced a lethal attack at Sradhapur village of Badakhairakhama panchayat. A group of miscreants armed with lathis and sharp weapons had attacked him.

Tension in this area has continued since the day of polling on April 10. On that day, the sarpanch of Badakhairakhama, Satyabadi Sahu and one of his associates had been attacked by some rivals. Two persons had been arrested in relation to this case.

Police officials claim these cases of violence were related to continuing rivalry in the area.

Locals say rivalry has been aggravated during the recent elections as the warring groups were related to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and an independent candidate contesting from Kavisuryanagar assembly seat, who had been expelled from the BJD.
