Slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan’s son Rahul, who is readying for his next TV reality show ’Swayamwar-Season 2’ where he is the groom looking for a suitable bride, would be campaigning for sister Poonam for the October 13 Assembly elections.
Ms. Poonam Mahajan filed her nomination as BJP candidate from Ghatkopar constituency in suburban Mumbai today. Mr. Rahul, who accompanied Ms. Mahajan, said he would campaign for his sister.
Asked how he would manage his shooting schedule with the hurly-burly of electioneering, Mr. Rahul said, “It is the duty of a brother towards his sister and I will carry out the duty.”
“I will undertake ‘padyatra’ and meet people in the constituency,” he said.
Mr. Rahul has been in the news for all the wrong reasons since his father’s death in 2006. Mr. Pramod Mahajan was fatally shot at on April 22, 2006 by his younger brother Pravin Mahajan. He succumbed to his injuries on May 3, 2006.
A month later Mr. Rahul was admitted to a Delhi hospital for a reported drug overdose while Pramod’s secretary Vivek Moitra was found dead in the house. The cause of Mr. Moitra’s death was reported to be drug overdose.
Thereafter, Mr. Rahul married his long-time friend and airline pilot Sweta but the marriage was a disaster with Sweta levelling charges of domestic violence against Rahul. The two divorced last year. Mr. Rahul’s popularity graph saw an upswing since he featured on TV reality show ‘Big Boss’.
