The police have registered two First Information Reports into the killings of 55-year-old liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep based on complaints by their associates. The estranged siblings were murdered on Saturday in an exchange of fire following an argument over the ownership of a farmhouse.
According to sources, the cases have been registered under sections related to Arms Act, kidnapping and house trespassing besides murder and attempt to murder.
While the police are trying to ascertain the exact sequence of events, sources claimed that around 11 a.m, Ponty along with his friend Sukdev Singh Namdhari, who is Chairman of the State Minorities Commission of Uttarakhand, his personal security officer Sachin Tyagi and some security guards reached 42 DLF Farms Chhatarpur, a disputed property between the two brothers, in a Land Cruiser.
Ponty’s men, most of whom were armed, then forcibly drove out Hardeep’s staff from the farmhouse. Hardeep, who was in Noida, was informed about the incident and he along with his associates reached the farmhouse around 12-30 p.m.
A furious Hardeep allegedly opened fire in which Ponty and his manager Narendra were injured. To save Mr. Namdhari, Tyagi shot at Hardeep who too sustained bullet injuries. A bullet also hit the bonnet of the Land Cruiser in which Ponty Chadha had reached the farmhouse.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Delhi Police have detained some PSOs, including both private and the ones provided by Punjab Police. A Punjab Police team was in the Capital on Sunday to seek further details about the bloodletting.
