Polling peaceful in Kandhamal urban local bodies

Polling concluded peacefully in two urban bodies of Kandhamal district on Monday.

These two urban bodies were the Phulbani municipality and G.Udaygiri Notified Area Council (NAC). Voters came out in large numbers to take part in these local urban body elections. Voting continued from 8 am to 5pm. As per initial reports, the voting percentage in Phulbani municipality area was around 62 per cent while it was around 73 per cent at G.Udaygiri.

Counting of votes will be held on Tuesday. Both the Phulbani municipality and the G.Udaygiri NAC have 13 wards each. In Phulbani, fate of 63 candidates have been sealed in the EVM machines. The BJD, the Congress and the BJP had fielded candidates in all the 13 wards of Phulbani. In G.Udaygiri there were 50 candidates. The BJD and the Congress fielded candidates in all the 13 wards. The BJP had nine candidates, while the NCP had two.
