The 125th birth anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution, B. R. Ambedkar, was observed with different political parties and organisations remembering the contribution of the great leader to Indian polity.
Such was the fanfare that political parties almost competed among them to pay tributes to Dr. Ambedkar at AG Square in the city. Leaders of Congress, BJP, BJD, Samajwadi Party and Left parties one after another garlanded the statue and recalled his contribution. Not to be left behind, the RSS too made an appearance near the statue.
State Congress chief Prasad Harichandan, BJP chief Basant Panda and Samajwadi Party president Rabi Behera said Dr. Ambedkar continues to be the tallest leader who worked for the downtrodden and Dalits in the country.
Marking the occasion, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee organised special function at Congress Bhawan and a ‘Bheem Jyoti Rath’ was flagged off at the party office. “The Indian society is now reaping the result of various constitutional provisions made by Dr. Ambedkar for welfare of the Dalits and the exploited section of society. The great leader and the Congress have always worked for development of downtrodden people,” Mr. Harichandan said.
He said: “The BJD government in the State has diverted fund earmarked of Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste for other purposes. The State government has become obstacle for development of the lower strata of the society.”
