Police looking for Himachal MLA in murder case

December 23, 2012 03:02 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:01 pm IST - SHIMLA:

The police are looking for a Congress leader and newly elected MLA from Doon in Himachal Pradesh, Ram Kumar Chaudhary, in the case of murder of his office attendant, Jyoti (24).

The police have raided in vain his premises in Baddi, Haripul Sandholi and other places. According to sources, Mr. Kumar, against whom and three others arrest warrants were issued on Friday, promised to join the investigations after Saturday’s session of the Congress Legislature Party, but he did not attend the meeting.

On Friday, Mr. Kumar rejected, before the media in Baddi, the allegation against him and said it was part of a political conspiracy by his opponents.

Jyoti, from Hoshiyarpur in Punjab, was found dead in Sector 21 of Punchkula in Haryana on November 22. Her father Booti Ram lodged a police complaint that Mr. Kumar was in touch with his daughter and that she was handling his financial matters during the just-concluded elections.

Baddi Superintendent of Police S. Arul said the four accused, including Dharampal, Gurmeet and Paramjeet, were booked under Section 302 of the IPC.
