October 18, 2013 01:57 pm | Updated 02:53 pm IST - Morigaon (Assam)

A man was killed and two others were injured when police opened fire at a mob attacking a police outpost at Boribazar in Morigaon district, police said on Friday.

The trouble started when police arrested six persons after supporters of the winning and losing teams of a local football match clashed with each other on Thursday.

To control the mob, demanding release of the six arrested persons, police resorted to lathi charge followed by firing in which three persons were seriously injured.

One of the injured identified as Mujibur Rahman (38) succumbed to his wounds on way to Morigaon Civil Hospital, police said.

Protesting the incident and claiming Rahman as its member, CPI Morigaon unit called a 12-hour district bandh from 6 am on Friday evoking partial response.
