Even as Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde ruled out any terrorist hand behind Friday’s explosion in a State Transport bus in Maharashtra’s Latur district, the State police failed to make any headway in ascertaining what caused the blast. An overheated engine might have been the cause, according to the district police.

The guardian Minister of Latur, Satej Patil, visited the spot on Saturday and said there were “no fears of any casualties.”

Nineteen people were injured in the explosion of whom, local sources told The Hindu , that at least five people, including a woman and a five-year-old child, suffered serious injuries. “The victims are being treated with aid from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” Mr. Patil told reporters in Latur.
