The Cyber Crime Cell of Goa Police on Saturday declined to register an FIR against activist Teesta Setalvad based on a complaint filed in on Friday against her for uploading an image of a Hindu goddess on a social networking site.

The complaint was filed at the Goa Police Cyber Crime cell by one Rohit Gaunker under section 66A of the Information Technology Act.

Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap, in charge of Cyber Crime Cell told The Hindu on Saturday that after conducting preliminary enquiries they ruled out registering an FIR in the case as the uploading of content which is part of the complaint had not taken place within Goa jurisdiction.

The complainant said the tweet uploaded by the activist from her handle @TeestaSetalvad "hurts religious sentiments of Hindus and mocks and offends Hindu religion".
