An officer of the State Intelligence Branch and an NGO worker, who are believed to have been abducted by Maoists from the Ayodhya Hills in Purulia district of West Bengal on Friday, are yet to be traced.
“The Maoists have not contacted us on the abduction so far. Neither have they made any demand for the release of the two,” Zulfikar Hasan, Inspector-General of Police (Western Range), told The Hindu on Sunday.
Mr. Hasan said it was very likely that the Maoists were behind the abduction because they were dominant in the area. Search operations were on.
Intelligence Branch officer Partha Biswas and his companion Sarmajit Bose went missing from Baragara village near Gharbeta of the Balrampur sub-division on Friday night. State Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh told journalists that the duo had gone to the area to distribute clothes, but their details were not known.
