A day after singer Asha Bhosle’s daughter Varsha Bhosle died, allegedly shooting herself at her house here, the police are still probing whose pistol was used.

There are only two gun licence-holders in the family, Asha Bhosle’s son Anand and her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar, but the weapon found in Varsha’s hand by maid servants on Monday afternoon did not belong to either of them, according to police sources.

This has raised many questions about ownership of the pistol and whether the owner holds a valid licence. “Asha Bhosle is not a licensed gun-holder,” Deputy Commissioner (Zone II) Nisar Tamboli told The Hindu when asked if Varsha too had a licence.

Media reports earlier said the pistol found in Varsha’s hand was Asha Bhosle’s.

“It is not yet clear in whose name the weapon, which we found at the spot, was” Mr. Tamboli said.
