The police on Sunday claimed involvement of Maoists in the killing of Sister Valsa John and arrested seven persons in connection with the incident.
“In all, there were 45 people, who had surrounded her house. Of them, 30 were Maoists,” Inspector General of Police (Santhal Pargana) Arun Kumar Oraon said at a press conference here.
The 30 Maoists, including the self-styled area commander, Ramesh Soren, belonged to Ramlal Rai's firing squad, he said.
All the seven persons arrested were detained on Saturday. Ms. Valsa made three calls before she was hacked to death on November 8. One of the calls was traced to her associate Sonia Deheri, Mr. Oraon said.
