About 12 government employees sustained injuries in police action when they were trying to march towards the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly to press for their demands including regularisation.
Nearly 2,000 agitators assembled at Eidgah at Residency Road here on a call given by Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) of government employees.
As they were marching towards the secretariat and raising slogans in support of their demands, police baton-charged in a bid to stop them in which over 12 persons were injured, officials said.
Police also took about 200 of them into custody and later sent them in buses to police lines, sources said.
The JCC had earlier announced to gherao the assembly in support of their demands including release of arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission and conversion of Cost of Living Allowance to Daily Allowance in favour of employees of Pubic Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
Their other demands are regularisation of all daily, contractual, ad hoc and consolidated employees, removal of pay anomalies of all cadres and enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years.
