Plea to stop hounding of RTI activists

August 07, 2017 11:26 pm | Updated 11:26 pm IST - Panaji

The Goa RTI Forum has denounced alleged attempts by government authorities to crack down on Right to Information activists.

The forum opposed the probes launched against RTI activist and government officer Kashinath Shetye for filing PILs seeking action against the government for environmental violations and corruption.

Ganpat Kurtikar, Secretary, Goa RTI Forum, said on Monday that the members of the forum reiterated the right of government servants to file PILs.

Mr. Kurtikar said they cited the Supreme Court’s 2014 judgment in the Vijay Shankar Pande v/s Union of India case and the clarification issued by the Centre in June this year, which stated that there was no bar on government servants to file PILs.
