The Bombay High Court on Wednesday rejected the defence plea for a medical examination of Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab to ensure his mental health. Justice Ranjana Desai held that there was no evidence before the court to suggest that Kasab was in an unstable state of mind at the time of committing the crime. The court also pointed to his confession and admission of guilt in court and observed that he had ascribed a lesser role to himself. The court said that Kasab showed no signs of being of unsound mind. The court also rejected the defence plea of nominating an NGO working in India and Pakistan to gather information on his family background. This is the second rejection in a row for the defence. Their application for an age determination test was rejected on Tuesday.
