The Election Commission has made elaborate security arrangements for the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections on Wednesday in view of Maoist threat. Polling will be held in 26 seats from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The constituencies that go to the polls are: Rajmahal, Borio (ST), Barhait (ST), Litipara (ST), Pakaur, Maheshpur (ST), Poreyahat, Nala, Jamtara, Madhupur, Sarath, Deogarh (SC), Godda, Mahagama, Ranchi, Hatia, Kanke (SC), Jugsalai (SC), Jamshedpur East, Jamshedpur West, Sindri, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Tundi and Baghmara.

The Commission had originally included 30 seats in the first phase. But lapses on the part of the returning officers and the district election officer in issuing the Hindi version of the nomination forms to the contestants forced it to cancel the exercise in Sikaripara (ST), Dumka (ST), Jama (ST) and Jarmundi. These seats will go the polls in the third phase on December 8.
