Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday that the countrymen were not at all aware of the Gujarat model of development, which the BJP prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, wanted to implement after coming to power.

“Mr. Modi is trying to create an atmosphere in his favour through newspapers and TV channels. He says the Gujarat model would be implemented in the country, but what is it, nobody knows,” Mr. Yadav said at a meeting here.

Claiming that other States were following the Uttar Pradesh government’s programmes, he said: “Mr. Modi cannot distribute the number of laptops in five years that the Uttar Pradesh government did in one year.”

Accusing the Congress-led UPA of pushing the country back during the 10 years of its rule, Mr. Yadav said the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister were afraid of going to the people (to get their mandate).

Holding the Congress and the BJP responsible for the bad shape of affairs in the country, he said the people were now pinning their hope on the Samajwadi Party because it did not indulge in double talk.
