Maoist-backed People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) has called an indefinite bandh from Wednesday in three Maoist-hit districts of West Bengal to protest the alleged illegal arrest of some tribals.
“The bandh in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia has been called to protest the illegal arrest of tribals in the Jhargram and Bhalukbasa,” PCAPA members said.
They claimed that those arrested were not being produced in court.
Ten persons were arrested during raids in Brindabanpur and Sirshi villages in Jhargram subdivision and Bhalukbasa in West Midnapore district in the past three days, police said.
Meanwhile, local CPI(M) leader 50-year-old Sailen Mahato, who was taken away by a group of armed men from his home at Pernapani village near Lalgarh on Monday night, was found dead with bullet injuries in chest and head near the village on Tuesday, police said.
