Having fared badly in western Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha polls, NCP on Saturday scrutinised the list of possible candidates to be fielded in the Assembly elections in the state next month.

Party Chief and Union Minister Sharad Pawar himself screened the names of aspirants for all the 288 assembly constituencies here.

NCP had suffered heavily in Western Maharashtra with its candidates being defeated in Kolhapur, Hatkanangale, Shirur and Maval Lok Sabha seats.

Besides western Maharashtra, he discussed the party’s prospects in the northern parts of the state as also in Mumbai and Konkan regions with senior leaders.

Party spokesman Madan Bafna said the party’s prospects in Kolhapur would be discussed on Sunday.
