For the whole of Friday, Patna reeled under foggy weather, with minimum temperatures hovering around eight degrees. Trains and flights were affected owing to poor visibility. Several flights from here were cancelled. “Not a single flight has landed in Patna,” the weather office said. Gaya was the coldest with minimum temperature 4.4 degrees, five points below normal.
With no sun in sight for the second consecutive day, the difference between minimum and maximum temperatures was less in Patna. The city experienced maximum temperature of 12.4 degrees, around 11 degrees below normal and minimum temperature of 8.5 degrees.
Purnia and Bhagalpur recorded minimum temperatures of 6.2 and 8.5 degrees respectively.
Thick layers of fog were formed with the blowing of the chilly northwesterly and westerly winds, dropping visibility levels in Patna to 50 metres.
The State Disaster Control said no reports of cold wave deaths had come so far. The Bihar government has organised around 500 bonfires in public squares across the State to provide relief to people from the chilly weather. In Patna, 35 bonfires were arranged.
