Their election was announced by the Returning Officer after the last date for the withdrawal of nominations on Friday.

Others elected are Tazeen Fatima, Javed Ali Khan, Neeraj Shekhar, Ravi Verma and Chandrapal Singh Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Rajaram and Bir Singh (Bahujan Samaj Party) and P. L. Punia (Congress).

The elections were necessitated following the end of term of 10 Rajya Sabha MPs from Uttar Pradesh on November 25.

In all, 11 nominations were submitted for the biennial polls, but the nomination of an Independent candidate, Qamar Ahmed, was rejected after scrutiny of papers. Once his nomination was rejected, it was clear that the other 10 candidates in fray would be elected unopposed.
