A paramilitary soldier went berserk, killing three of his colleagues at a remote security camp in Dhalai district of Tripura. Three other security men sustained grave injuries in the shoot-out at Thangkarai in Chawmanu police station limit on Monday evening.
Police on Tuesday said it all started over a quarrel between two groups of soldiers at a security post of the Tripura State Rifles near the Bangladesh border. Rifleman Bijay Debbarma sprayed bullets from his self-loading rifle, killing one soldier on the spot and injuring five. He fled the scene with his service weapon to Bangladesh, police said.
Two soldiers died later in hospital. Doctors attending said the condition of the injured soldiers was critical. Senior security officers rushed to the spot after the tragic incident. The Border Security Force has been asked to communicate with their counterpart Border Guards Bangladesh to track down the assailant.
