Panorama film festival begins in Shillong

A three-day Indian Panorama Film Festival organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals was inaugurated in Shillong on Wednesday with the screening of the award-winning Marathi film Dr. Prakash Baba Amte: The Real Hero .

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma inaugurated the third edition of the festival. Meghalaya’s Information and Public Relations Minister A.L. Hek was present.

Bimal Julka, Secretary, Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, said the Ministry had been focussing on showcasing films from the Northeast to encourage film production in the region. To encourage talent, the Films Division of the Ministry had implemented a special component under a Plan scheme for production of short films from the Northeast.

The films to be screened during the festival are Drishyam (Malayalam), December 1 (Kannada), Kuttram Kadithal (Tamil), Ankhon Dekhi (Hindi), Othello (Assamese), Ri (Khasi), Teenkahon (Bengali) and Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona (Bengali).
