A panel probing allegations of financial irregularities against AMU Vice-Chancellor P K Abdul Azis plans to file an interim report on the issue and has asked the parties to give their submissions by February 26.

The two-member committee said that in spite of best efforts to expedite the proceedings, it could not be concluded within the prescribed schedule due to various reasons and felt that an interim report should be submitted to the Visitor of Aligarh Muslim University - President Pratibha Patil.

In its last meeting held on February 19, the panel asked the complainants and the university to file any written submissions within one week, sources said. The committee had started its hearings on February 4 last year and was to give its report in two months.

Meanwhile, AMU Court member and former MP Wasim Ahmed, who is one of the complainants, has accused Mr. Azis of adopting “various tactics to delay the ongoing probe”, a charge denied by the University. He said he will lead a delegation to Ms. Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to seek a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.
