Death toll in the hooch tragedy in Pali district rose to seven as two people undergoing treatment in a hospital died today, officials said.

“Total nine people have died so far and out of them, seven died due to the spurious liquor. Doctors have not confirmed that hooch was the reason behind the death of Chagan and Sushila and we are waiting for the report,” Pali district Collector Neeraj K Pawan said.

Shortly after a hooch tragedy claimed nine lives in Jodhpur, five persons died yesterday in Subhash Nagar and Housing Board localities of the district after consuming spurious liquor allegedly supplied by the same seller.

“Out of 53 people, 33 have been discharged and the remaining is under treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have detained eight more persons in connection with the supply of the spurious liquor.

“We had arrested four persons yesterday and detained eight more today, who are being interrogated,” SP Pali Ajaypal Lamba said.
