The Himachal Pradesh government ordered an inquiry on Saturday into a complaint lodged by some patients that they lost their sight after undergoing cataract surgery at a free eye camp in Pathankot in March. They underwent the surgery in a private hospital, along with patients from Punjab.
State Health Secretary Vineet Chaudhary asked Chief Medical Officer B.M. Gupta to conduct the inquiry and submit a report within a week.
Doctors had gone to record the statements of the patients, most of them at Kandwal village in Nurpur sub-division of Kangra district bordering Pathankot town of Punjab.
S K. Sharma, who examined five patients on Saturday, said all had lost their sight.
