As border tension continued in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, security forces arrested two Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants and a Pakistani spy in two separate operations.
As Pakistani Rangers pounded frontline posts in Rajouri with mortars and fired from low-caliber weapons in R.S. Pura and Kathua on Friday night, villagers began leaving areas near the International Border, abandoning crops and cattle.
Meanwhile, Samba police said a spy, identified as Bodh Raj, a resident of Changiia, Arnia district, was arrested “for his espionage activities and passing on vital information on deployment and movement of security forces to Pakistan.”
The arrest was made on Friday from the border area of Ramgarh. “Raj was found roaming in suspicious circumstances in Jerda village near the International Border (IB),” they said.

Villagers throng jawan’s house
As 26-year-old BSF soldier Gurnam Singh battles for his life at a hospital here after being injured in a sniper attack by Pakistani troops, people are making a beeline for his house in Arichana village with prayers on their lips for his early recovery.
“Since we got the news about the incident we have been praying to Waheguru,” said Gurjeet Kaur, sister of Mr. Singh.
Mr. Singh is undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital here. His family has requested that he be shifted to a “better hospital outside the State”.
He was injured on Friday morning when Pakistani snipers targeted him as he was instrumental in foiling a major infiltration bid along the international border in Kathua district.
“Right now he needs prayers. He put his life in danger to protect the people of our country. He needs prayers and please pray for him,” Mandeep Singh, the younger brother of the injured BSF jawan, said.
Scores of border dwellers in R.S. Pora and Arnia belts have visited the house of the jawan. Across Jammu region, people are holding prayers for his early recovery.
Villagers say Gurnam Singh had always wanted to join BSF and guard the borders. “He was so excited when he got selected for the commando training. We pray for his early recovery so that he can join duty. The country is in need of soldiers like him,” a villager said. —
