The former Goa Minister, Mickky Pacheco, was remanded to judicial custody for two days by a District and Sessions Court at Margao on Saturday after he surrendered in connection with the unnatural death of a woman. He remained underground for nearly a month, as his attempts to seek anticipatory bail from the Sessions Court, the High Court and then the Supreme Court failed.
Mr. Pacheco, booked by the police for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the death of Nadia Torrado, 28, was shifted to the ICU of the State-owned Hospicio at Margao in the evening, after he complained of stress and hypertension. Mr. Pacheco was on the run since he resigned from the Cabinet after the controversy over the death on May 30 of Naida at a Chennai hospital, where she was admitted after she consumed poison. Mr. Pacheco admitted that she was his close friend.
