The former Goa Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco, was taken into custody by the Crime Branch of the Goa police on Thursday after he was discharged by the State-owned Hospicio Hospital at Margao in South Goa.
Mr. Pacheco was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital on Saturday after he complained of hypertension soon after he was remanded to judicial custody by a sessions court following his surrender.
Confirming the arrest, Goa Superintendent of Police and public relations officer Atmaram Deshpande told TheHindu on Thursday that Mr. Pacheco would be produced before the Margao Sessions Court on Friday morning for remand.
The same court on Wednesday rejected his bail application and ordered the Crime Branch to take him to custody the moment he was discharged from the hospital.
Custodial interrogation
The Crime Branch has sought his custodial interrogation in the 28-year-old Nadia Torrado's unnatural death case, in which the former Minister is booked as a prime accused.
He has been booked for abetment to suicide and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Ms. Torrado, a close friend of Mr. Pacheco, died at a Chennai hospital on May 30 where she was admitted after she allegedly consumed poison on May 15.
After evading police for nearly a month, Mr. Pacheco surrendered before the Margao Sessions Court on July 3 soon after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court. His former Officer on Special Duty, Lyndon Monteiro, is co-accused in the case.
