A metropolitan court here will decide on Thursday a protest petition by Zakia Jafri, wife of the slain former Congress MP Ahsan Jafri, challenging the SIT’s clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 59 others in the 2002 communal riots.
The Special Investigation Team, headed by the former CBI Director, R.K. Raghavan, was appointed by the Supreme Court to look into the allegations by Ms. Jafri, who approached it in 2008 complaining that Mr. Modi and others were involved in the larger conspiracy behind the communal riots.
In 2010, the SIT summoned Mr. Modi and interrogated him for nearly 10 hours. After a four-year probe, the team gave him a clean chit. In all, there are 15 major charges against Mr. Modi.
