One killed, several injured on Diwali

One person was killed and several others got burn injuries tonight when celebrating Diwali in Orissa.

The police said Prakash Biswal was burnt alive after a fire cracker hit his wooden cabin storing petrol jars at Betali village in Bhadrak district.

Several others were admitted to hospital in various places after sustaining burn injuries when bursting fire crackers, the police said.

In the capital city here, two empty buses parked at Rasulgarh was damaged as burning crackers fell on them.

A report from Cuttack said that about a dozen people were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) due to burn injuries sustained when celebrating Diwali. The condition of two of them was stated to be in serious, hospital sources said.

More than 15 people injured in fire cracker accidents were treated at the capital hospital here.

In another incident, a slum at Atharbanki area in Paradip also caught fire due to fire cracker accidents. About eight small shops were gutted, the police said.
