One person from Maharastra, identified as Ozish has been arrested by the security forces along with three children he was smuggling out of Manipur. He had abducted them from their homes.

Trafficking of children has been thriving in Manipur. Some girls who were taken to foreign countries, came to light when three of them returned home, with money begged from sympathetic tourists.

On Friday, personnel of 87 CRPF deployed at Khamiron in Tamenglong district, flagged down a car bearing registration No. MNH 12 BP 5992 for routine checking. The personnel became suspicious when there were two tribal boys and one girl between 5 to 7 years of age. Besides, the person who was taking them could not give a coherent and credible explanation. They were taken inside the camp for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, the villagers converged at the CRPF camp demanding handing over the children and the person to them. Top ranking police officials had to be summoned from the district headquarters in view of the tense situation. The villagers also burned down the car.

The police officials restored the children to the parents and assured them that the suspect would face trial in a law court. Following this incident migrant workers are not entering deep inside the villages in the district as some of them may be mistaken as abductors.
