One dead after truck rams goods train in Purulia

A truck collided with a goods train in West Bengal’s Purulia district on Saturday, killing the truck driver.

The driver’s helper was severely injured and has been admitted to a local hospital.

The incident took place between the Kantadih and Tamna stations in South Eastern Railway’s Adra division. The engine and 11 wagons of the train were derailed in the collision.

Services disrupted

Due to the accident, train services were disrupted as the up and down lines of the section got blocked.

“The driver of the truck died as his vehicle collided with the goods train after he broke through the level crossing gate and rammed into the goods train,” the Chief Public Relations Officer of South Eastern Railway told The Hindu .

Even though no long-distance trains were cancelled, the ones to that were to pass through Purulia-Chandil route were diverted via Purulia-KotsilaMuri-Chandil.
