The Association of Old Stephanians has demanded a probe into the appointment of St. Stephen’s College principal Valson Thampu following media reports that the same was illegal.

“We are shocked to read media reports that show the appointment of Mr. Thampu as principal of St. Stephen’s College was vitiated and his appointment is illegal. It also shows that the illegal appointment was not questioned by Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh,” media co-ordinator for the Association of Old Stephanians Ashish Joshi said.

“The role played by Delhi University under Mr. Singh, therefore, also needs to be probed. Further, it is not just a matter related to one college, but raises a serious question on how appointments of principals in Delhi University are being made without following laid down rules and procedures,” Mr. Joshi added.

The association has demanded a thorough probe by the competent authority regarding the role of Delhi University under Mr. Singh in allowing Mr. Thampu to continue as principal in violation of rules.

“It also raises a serious question on how appointments of principals in DU are being made without following laid down rules and procedures”
