: The Odisha government has proposed to set up a council for regulating yoga practice.

This proposal received overwhelming response from the general public following celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21.

The State government, which had earlier prepared a draft Bill ‘The Odisha Yoga and Naturopathic System of Medicine Bill-2014’, but did not pursue it seriously, is now set to implement it immediately.

“It is essential to formulate an Act regulating education and registration of practitioners of yoga and provide the regulatory framework for all aspects of yoga system,” said Basudev Bahinipati, Director of AYUSH.
