The Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officials in Malkangiri district went on an indefinite pen down agitation from Saturday afternoon demanding suspension and action against the police officer who allegedly misbehaved with teshildar and sub-registrar of Motu.

The OAS Officers’ Association and the SC/ST Government Employees’ Association of Malkangiri district have jointly called the strike. Both the associations also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister to Malkangiri Collector D. Prashant Kumar Reddy on Friday.

Through the memorandum they have demanded suspension of the inspector in-charge of Malkangiri police station, R. K. Das, and initiation of action against him for his alleged misbehaviour against an OAS officer. They also demanded transfer of present Superintendent of Police (SP) of Malkangiri.

The OAS officers resorted to pen down agitation from Saturday afternoon as no action had been taken against the erring police officer, said Malkangiri district SC/ST Employees’ Association president R. K. Gond.

Speaking to The Hindu , Malkangiri District Collector D. Prashant Kumar Reddy said the memorandum has been forwarded to the State government for necessary action.

Meanwhile, discussions are on with agitating employees so that administrative work is not hampered in the district, he added. But according to Mr Gond, they would continue their pen down agitation till their demands were fulfilled.

This whole issue is related to an incident on May 25. It is alleged that two personnel of the Malkangiri police station had forcibly entered the residence of Motu tehsildar Anil Kumar Sethy at Malkangiri town. Mr Sethy was asked to meet the inspector in-charge of Malkangiri police station, who was waiting outside in his police jeep. It is alleged that the police inspector had misbehaved with the tehsildar and forced him to cancel a land registration. Both the associations of government officials alleged that the police officer had misused his powers. Although the OAS officers had sought intervention of Malkangiri SP in the matter, no action was initiated against the police officer. So, both associations of government officials have demanded transfer of the SP.
