April 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - BHUBANESWAR:

The Odisha government has allotted one acre near Gothapatna locality for setting up of Central Cosmetic Testing Laboratory in Bhubaneswar.

The land for the laboratory, which is to be set up with 100 per cent central grant, has been provided free of cost.

The land is located at Gothapatana, near Odisha Disaster Management Academy and Birla Institute of Management and Technology, in close vicinity of Bhubaneswar and is having 40 ft wide approach road.

State Health Secretary Aarti Ahuja in a letter to Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry suggested to accommodate sub-zonal office of the Central Standard Control Organisation (CSCO) (East Zone) on the campus.

Strengthening regulatory system

The CSCO requires about 0.5 acre of land for its proposed sub-zonal office at Bhubaneswar for strengthening drug regulatory system in the State.

In addition to cosmetic laboratory, it has been agreed as part of strengthening of drug regulatory system in the State that a zonal drug testing laboratory at Sambalpur, having proposed capacity of testing 3,000 drug samples per annum, will be set up in 60:40 sharing basis. “The land has also been identified close to the office of the Deputy Drug Controller (West Zone) and Drugs Inspector, Sambalpur,” Ms. Ahuja informed the Ministry.

The State government sought immediate confirmation from the Ministry over the setting up of three institutions so that land alienation could be carried out. Similarly, steps may also be taken to complete the process of the finalisation of MoU for setting up of the Zonal Drug Testing Laboratory at Sambalpur so that arrangement of fund of State share can be made in the current financial year, she mentioned.
