Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday directed the officials to complete detailed survey of houses damaged due to Phailin cyclone as well as the continuous rains and floods in Ganjam district by November 17.
He made this order during his visit to Ganjam district on Thursday afternoon. He reached the district by helicopter and made an aerial survey of the Phailin cyclone and flood devastated areas before landing at district headquarters town Chatrapur. He reviewed the progress of relief and restoration process in the district at the conference hall of the district Collector’s office.
Compensation
The Chief Minister was accompanied by the State chief secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra. State ministers from the district Surya Narayan Patra, Bikram Keshari Arukh, local elected representatives including some MLAs, Berhampur mayor, Zilla Parishad chairperson etc were present in this meeting along with the district Collector Krishan Kumar and senior officials of different departments.
The Chief Minister was of the opinion that compensation should reach the families who had their houses damaged as early as possible for it he set the deadline for enumeration of these houses to be completed by Nov. 17.
He suggested the administration to start disbursement of compensation from the village which had incurred highest damage. He stressed upon the point that disbursement of compensation should start from most damaged areas on priority basis. The departments of veterinary, fisheries, horticulture and agriculture were also directed to furnish their detailed assessment of losses by November 17.
Mr. Patnaik was also concerned about the fact that except some urban pockets most parts of Ganjam district were without electricity.
He directed the officials involved in power restoration work to take up measures on a war footing to re-electrify rural areas by November 15 also getting all urban areas of the district electrified by then.
The Chief Minister also stressed upon provision of employment to the rural poor and all concerned departments were ordered to start employment generation through MGNREGA after the Diwali festival on November 3.
Ganjam district Collector said all block and tehsil offices in the district would remain open from 7.30 a.m. till the enumeration of damages caused by Phailin cyclone and floods gets completed.
Lack of electricity supply is a reason behind this decision. The Collector has ordered all senior officers of the administration to start touring blocks and tehsils from Friday to monitor the damage enumeration process.
