A ‘RaGa Basket’ or a ‘NaMo Thali?’ Election frenzy seems to be setting in with a restaurant in Allahabad offering its customers the unlikely choice of food. Located in the heart of Sangam City, the multi-cuisine restaurant, ‘Tandoor,’ has created an entire menu dedicated to the 2014 general election, calling it ‘Mission May 2014.’
The RaGa meal comprises a mix of north and south Indian food such as idlis, vadas and paranthas. It is complemented with chutneys of three colours — saffron, green and white. All this for Rs 90.
The NaMo Thali is a regular vegetarian fare customised with Gujarati flavours and a pre-dominant saffron colour. The Gujarati khakra is its mainstay. The total cost — Rs. 110.
Manager Arun Shukla brushes aside any mention of publicity. “The menu is meant to motivate voters to vote, and make them aware of the political options they have. The elections are crucial for not only political parties but also for us. People should be exposed to politics so that the election mood sets in,” he said.
To supplement the menu, Mr. Shukla has created a slogan for his customers: “Eat correct, think correct and vote correct.”
In the past, the restaurant designed menus dedicated to Anna Hazare and, later, in the memory of the Delhi gang rape victim.
