After he was interrogated by the Bidhannagar police for the ninth time, the suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for Tuesday for questioning on his role in the Saradha Ponzi scheme scam.
“I have been asked to be present in their Salt Lake office [in the city],” Mr. Ghosh told The Hindu here on Sunday, adding the ED had given him the option of either coming himself or sending any authorised representative. “But I will go myself and fully cooperate with the ED officials.”
Asked about Saradha group chairman Sudipta Sen’s letter to the CBI, accusing him of having extorted money from him, Mr. Ghosh alleged that Mr. Sen’s letter to the agency “is a conspiracy.”
He said the “whole plot of Saradha scam,” beginning with Mr. Sen’s letter to the CBI, has been “arranged in such a manner that any investigating agency will definitely interrogate me.”
Claiming that Mr. Sen had not sent the letter to the CBI “out of his own volition”, Mr. Ghosh said the trend of events centred round the Saradha scam was “part of a larger conspiracy to divert attention from several other issues.”
Apart from being grilled repeatedly by the local police, Mr. Ghosh has been summoned by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
A journalist-turned-politician, he has been facing repeated police grilling after he was suspended last month by the Trinamool for “anti-party” activities in the wake of his saying in public that he would not let anyone make him a “scapegoat” in the multicrore scam.
