After a biography penned by his younger brother and Public Works Department Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav now plays the central character in a documentary, Aapatkal ke Mahanayak (Megastar of the Emergency).
As the name of the documentary suggests, the film eulogises his struggle during the Emergency. Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav went on to become a Minister when the Janata Party government, headed by Ram Naresh Yadav, was formed in Uttar Pradesh in 1977.
The documentary on a compact disc (CDs) was released by his son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav at a function held in Vishweshraiya auditorium on Tuesday. The SP chief was not present.
Stating that democracy was a powerful tool, the Chief Minister said the trial and tribulations of the loktantra senanis (freedom fighters for the restoration of democracy) during the Emergency would be remembered by the new generation. The loktantra senanis were held in high esteem by the SP. “When Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister, the loktantra senanis were honoured and felicitated by his government.”
However, the facilities for them were withdrawn by the previous regime, he said adding that they had now been reinstated.
The documentary has been produced by the Loktantra Senani Samiti, Uttar Pradesh.
