Notification for UP bypolls issued

Notification for bypolls to 11 assembly and one Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh was issued on Wednesday.

The polling will be held on November 7, state Chief electoral officer Umesh Sinha said.

Assembly seats going to polls are Rari (Jaunpur), Lucknow (west), Puwayan (SC), Padrauna, Isauli, Jhansi, Kolosala, Hainsar Bazar, Lalitpur, Etawah and Bharthana.

Most of the seats fell vacant after the sitting MLAs got elected to Lok Sabha.

The only Lok Sabha seat going to polls is Firozabad, which fell vacant due to resignation of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, who retained Kannauj seat.

Mr. Sinha said the last date of filing nomination papers will be October 21 while the scrutiny of nominations would be done on October 22.

The last date of withdrawal is October 24, he said.

The counting of votes will take place on November 10, Sinha said, adding that over 40 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the bypolls.
