Under sharp criticism for suggesting converting Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act into a job guarantee scheme, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has clarified that she did not argue against the Act.

“The idea is to fulfil the local needs, minimize waste and bring about positive outcomes through gainful and meaningful employment,” she tweeted on Saturday.

She said this was possible only when the State Employment Guarantee Council is truly empowered and the design and implementation of the scheme is flexible, thus enlarging the scope of employment generation opportunities for meeting the various needs of the State

“I do not argue against guaranteeing employment. The right to guaranteed employment remains enshrined,” she wrote in her tweet.
