The week-long North East Spring Festival showcasing different folk art forms of north-eastern States got off to a colourful start this evening at the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) complex at Dimapur.

Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar, who is also the chairman of NEZCC, formally inaugurated the event.

The festival organised by NEZCC, an institution under the Union Ministry of Culture and Tourism, has participation from about 380 artistes from the region and other parts of the country, the organisers said.

The festival aims to provide a common platform to folk artistes to showcase their art and enable them to interact with each other to strengthen the bond of national integration.

The organisers said that apart from programmes of dance and music, traditional costumes, choral singing, folk fusion and western music will also be showcased.
