A local court has issued non-bailable warrants against Maulana Nazeer and eight others in connection with the Muzaffarnagar riots.

Police had registered a case against the nine persons for allegedly violating prohibitory orders on September 3, but they are yet to be presented in court.

Maulana Nazeer, against whom a case has been registered for allegedly inflaming communal tension, had reportedly met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow in September.

BJP had accused the SP government of trying to appease the minority community following the meeting.
